Those seeking mountain solitude will find happiness in the green centre of Crete on Kedros (T4).
Kedros is a rather unknown Cretan mountain in the green centre of the island. It lies between the two highest Cretan mountains Psiloritis (Ida Mountains) and Lefka Ori (White Mountains). Although parts of the route are part of the long-distance hiking trail E4, the paths are not very distinctive on long stretches and the markings are sparse. A good sense of direction is therefore essential. The best way to climb the mountain is from Gious Kampos, a green, species-rich plateau between Spili and Gerakari. From there, there are two ways to climb the Kedros: For the ascent, the west ridge is recommended, which has a few interesting scrambles to offer. The descent is via the north flank, this route is a little more pronounced and the markings better. Those who are not afraid of a bit of pathfinding will be rewarded with the species-rich flora of the water-rich area.
