The route starts in the Austrian Seefeld and ends 15 km further north in the German Mittenwald. The route is a large loop through the western part of the Karwendel.
The route we follow alternates below and above the tree line along paths such as Freiungen Höhenweg, Goetheweg and Wilde Bande Steig. If all goes well, we reach our highest point at the Birkkarspitze (2,749m). It is a route that demands not only high fitness but is also technically quite challenging. Already on the 2nd day, you continually walk ‘with hands and feet’. We often walk on steep rocky paths secured with steel cables. There are some sections where you absolutely must be sure of your footing. The mountain huts in this area are located around the tree line at about 2000 meters. Generally, the huts are frequently visited by day visitors. In the evening it quickly becomes quieter and the staff pays more attention to overnight groups. Three of the five huts have no tap water. This must be purchased from the host.
