The highest peak of the Dodecanese is often climbed from the Lastos plateau. Significantly more demanding, longer but also more impressive is the ascent from sea level at Adia. The trail leads through gorges, pine forests, alpine meadows and partly quite alpine terrain to the summit cross at Kali Limni. The old herders' path cleverly winds around half the mountain and offers great views of the coastline.
Route finding is challenging in a few sections. Surefootedness is required on the partly exposed but easy rocky terrain!
Author’s recommendation
This route ends in Lastos. If only one vehicle is available, you can return from Lastos to the ascent path and descend back to Adia in about 1 1/2 hours.
The Taverna Kali Limni in Lastos offers the only place to eat on the route.

On the left side of the gorge, the trail ascends first along a water pipe and past the climbing sectors 'Theo' and 'Eiar'. The trail is marked red-black and indicated by cairns. Soon the path crosses through dense oleander bushes to the right side of the valley. Shortly after, the path becomes noticeably flatter and better and leads through pine forests and smaller rock steps up to the alpine pasture area of Lastos at about 600m above sea level. Now follow the poorly visible trail on flat terrain until a forestry road is reached. Follow this road towards the northeast until a junction with a cart track branching northwest is reached on the left. Take this cart track. After 500m the cart track merges into a trail, which continues over abandoned alpine meadows and leads to the northwest side of the mountain.
Here begins the easy but exposed crossing on rocky terrain, which requires caution. The old herders' trail is cleverly laid out and safely brings us through the steep slope.
Shortly before the meeting point with the path coming up from Lefkos, you reach a spring that has abundant water at least in June.
The following gully is crossed before the very poorly marked (cairns) and hardly visible path ascends. (Follow GPS track!). The next 250 vertical meters are the downside of the route. Almost pathless, it goes laboriously steeply up the rocky mountain slope before moderate terrain follows again, and you reach the saddle (1080m) before the summit along the well-visible trail again.
The last 140 vertical meters to the already visible summit (1215m) are easily climbed through rocky terrain.
The descent to Lastos takes place via a well-marked, much-used path. (Walking time 45min)
