Hornád Gorge and Kláštorisko / Slovenský raj

This time we set off on foot from the village of Hrabušice, where we stayed for a week in one of the many private guesthouses. However, the real starting point for trips into Slovenský raj on this side is Podlesok, where you pay the entrance fee to the reserve and buy souvenirs, maps, etc.

A narrow path leads through the Hornád Gorge, often overcoming steep climbs and cliffs or walking on metal steps embedded in the rock, with a mountain river flowing beneath. By the rope bridge, we turned into the Kláštor Valley. In rain, we follow the stream; in dry weather, we walk along its bed, passing several waterfalls (Strak's, Rainbow, Moss) up to the meadow at Kláštorisko. To the right lies the ruins of the Carthusian monastery, active here from the 14th to mid-16th century. Since 1926, a mountain hut above the meadow stands at the convergence of all marked trails in this part of Slovenský raj. In the Kyseľ Valley, we admire more waterfalls on a much larger mountain brook (Moss Waterfall). From the junction above the Suchá Belá Valley, we return to Podlesok.
