Hoher Trieb
Hoher Trieb 2199 m
This was supposed to be our recovery route with its relative height of about 500 meters. Due to the north-facing position, there was still snow in a gully with a narrow icy rim crack. We had to cross very carefully as we did not have crampons with us.

From the parking lot below the Zollnersee hut, we went to the trail on the Hoher Trieb. The small Trieb was closed because the safety rope was damaged.
Unfortunately, there was a hard, steep snowfield to cross on the north side in the upper area. We climbed up on the left side of the snowfield and crossed it to the remaining slippery and steep section up to the ridge, on which there are old wartime positions. There, on the sunny Italian side, the climb to the summit with its small cross was somewhat exposed.
For safety reasons, I no longer wanted to descend the way we ascended. I also discarded going down the ridge to Rif. Pietro Fabiani. So we went along the wartime positions on the ridge in the direction of Kronhofer Törl. To shorten the return trip somewhat, we used a notch to easily descend to a small lake and from there further along visible trail traces from above to a hunting lookout. After a break at this stand, we followed a trail down into a bushy steep forest. Unfortunately, the trail was lost there. I no longer wanted to go back up to look for the trail, so we struggled more than 250 meters down very steep terrain through shrubs at the edge of a ravine and found an unmarked trail by which we reached the Pramosio path. It would have been better, much better, if we had descended to Kronhofer Törl and taken the longer route. After the tremendous descent effort, we followed this path up and down to the Zollnersee hut to stop there. We needed about 8 hours for this relatively short distance and its challenges. Then the long descent in the valley on the somewhat poor and narrow gravel road by car also took a toll on me. So, it was not a recovery, after all.
