Leave the train station in Unterammergau heading north towards Hofstadelstraße. Continuing in the same direction, turn into Kappelweg, which runs largely parallel to the federal road. At the last buildings, cross an intersection continuing towards the already visible chapel. At the next intersection, turn right up the chapel hill and shortly afterwards go left down along a stream. The path winds gently in curves, continuing slightly uphill towards the north. At the next clearly visible intersection, follow the signage to the right. The paved path now ascends significantly in switchbacks and later turns into a forest road and then into a marked trail. It gets steeper through the forest, and the trail, full of roots, becomes more strenuous leading up to a small clearing. A forest road is crossed, somewhat flatter for a few meters. Then gaining height again, continue up to the open area near point 1293. Slightly keeping right, go gently downhill to another intersection. On the other side, the path ascends quite steeply over a root-covered slope directly to the Hörnle hut.
From the Hörnle hut, a marked path leads eastward to the Hinteres Hörnle. After about 200 meters, a small path leads left to the Vorderes Hörnle and back down to the main path. Immediately following is the ascent to the Mittleres Hörnle. From there, descend to the simply managed Hörnle Alm and continue to the Hinteres Hörnle. This can be reached via several paths. For example, the main path leads slightly uphill on the left around the summit and then up a short trail on the backside to the peak.
For the descent, head back towards Hörnle Alm. Just before, a marked forest road branches right towards the valley station of the chairlift. In some wide switchbacks, the chairlift line is crossed near the valley. At the following fork, take the right over a meadow to the Hörnleweg. At its end, turn left into Fallerstraße and a little further right into Schillingsweg. This is continued downhill by a paved footpath that leads into Trillerweg. Turn right through St.-Martins-Straße to the main road. Follow it to the right until – almost at the town exit – the Bahnhofsstraße leads left to the train station.
