The ascent of the Hochschober (3,242 m) in the Schober group is a varied, high alpine two-day route starting at the Leibnitzbachbrücke parking lot. After an approach of about two hours, you reach the Hochschober hut (2,322 m), from where the demanding summit ascent begins. The route goes over the Schoberlacke through rocky terrain and requires easy climbing sections up to grade II difficulty in the upper section. The summit ridge runs over an impressive rock formation with views of relics of the Schoberkees glacier and a wide panorama – with good visibility up to Großglockner, Hochalmspitze, and Dachstein. The descent goes via the southeast ridge to the Leibnitztörl and then back to the hut. Despite the technical sections, the route is possible without glacier equipment under stable summer conditions. Particularly worthwhile is a stop at the charmingly managed Hochschober hut, which with its remote location, warm atmosphere, and excellent cuisine forms a real highlight.

Directions
You can either drive via the Felbertauernstraße B108 (toll road, see website) through St. Johann im Walde or via Lienz to Ainet. From there, the road branches off to Oberleibnig and leads steeply and narrowly uphill. The Leibnitzbachbrücke parking lot is not very large, so ideally you should arrive early.Coordinates
