Forest walk to the summit meadow of Hochschergen, one of the lesser-known peaks in the Ammergau Alps. The visit is worthwhile as it is very mystical.

After the hike, stop at the Forsthaus Unternogg; the restaurant also has a nice beer garden in summer.Roadbook
From the parking lot, head southwest along the road to a gravel path. After about 700 m, ascend on the cart track branching off to the left. The path gradually fades, and you continue off-path slightly to the left until you reach a forest road, where you then turn left to continue eastward. After about 1.5 km, a small but good trail leads right up into the high forest (signpost "Hochschergen"). This trail ascends quite steeply in several switchbacks, crossing two forest roads, and in just under an hour reaches the summit meadow of Hochschergen and a primitive summit cross. The forest extending almost to the summit limits the view somewhat, but you are rewarded on the wide meadow with good panoramic views and wonderful resting spots. If you do not want to descend the same way, turn left at the second forest road (sign "Straße") and on this path – with beautiful views into the Pfaffenwinkel region – you first walk west and then northeast again to reach the starting parking lot.
