At over 2000 m, the crossing of the Hochplatte in the Ammergau Alps leads us, for which surefootedness and a head for heights are absolute prerequisites.
The clear view of the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps and the many lakes of the Alpine foothills make the Hochplatte one of the most popular mountains in the otherwise rather quiet Ammergau Alps. The crossing starts on Austrian territory, but after a few meters we already reach Germany and hike on the Schützensteig via the Alpe Jägerhütte, the Roggentalsattel, and the Fensterl, a hole in the rock of the Hochplatte, to the summit at 2097 meters. From the secured but exposed ridge, it goes past the Weitalpjoch back into the valley.
