The highest peak of the Sarntal ridge is a classic local mountain of Meran. The Hirzer rewards the mountain hiker with a magnificent view of the peaks of the Texel group. Its ascent is a mountain experience without particular difficulties.
The starting point of the hike is Saltaus, from where you take the Hirzer cable car to Klammeben. From the cable car mountain station, you hike – always following the signs to "Hirzerhütte" – first gently up a hill and then down again to the beautifully situated mountain hut. Here, follow the sign "Hirzer" and meet the European long-distance path (E5), which initially rises gently and later steeper to the upper saddle (2683 m). The last part is quite steep and rocky but well maintained. After the saddle, continue left on the Gebirgsjäger trail into the southern flank of the mountain and steeply up to the summit via switchbacks. The descent is along the same route.
