The Hirscheck - a long-awaited destination on our "peak to-do list", and now we had finally been on this beautiful summit! Since the region around the Bärenalm is definitely one of our favorite hiking areas, and we had already visited many of the local peaks like Schafferkogel, Zamseggerkogel, Kleiner and Großer Scheibe, the Hirscheck was now especially high on the list. The route simply offers everything the heart desires: idyllic alpine meadows, rustic huts, beautiful trails, constantly incredible views into the Dead Mountains, and a summit area that will leave you speechless!

    Türkenkarscharte - Hirscheck: 50 minutes

    Descent: 2 hours 30 minutes

From the parking lot, we first followed the road towards Baumschlagerreith, until shortly afterwards the Hochhaus forest road branches off to the left. At this junction, signs point to Hochmölbinghütte, Bärenalm and Türkenkarscharte. We then walked up this forest road for a few minutes, until a forest trail branches off to the right, also marked with signs. This forest path continues uphill, crossing the slopes of the former ski area several times, until after about 20 minutes we reached a forest road. Directly opposite, the trail continues uphill, with Schafferreith already signposted. We reached a stable shortly afterwards via a wide cart track, but turned our backs on it and followed the former ski slope upwards. A few minutes later, we left the slope again when a narrow forest path with the Schafferreith sign branches off to the left. This path now ascends a bit steeper, until after about 40 minutes of walking time we reached Schafferreith.

We immediately turned our backs on it and continued on our way - over a steep meadow it went up the former ski slope, and after a few minutes we crossed a forest road. In theory, you could follow this forest road, but we chose shortcuts through the forest. Several times we crossed the forest road before it got steeper again and went back into the forest. Roots, soil and rocks alternate, but it is not difficult to walk. We passed some marked spots named Schreiad'n Mau, Opferstock and Tragada Stoa, where the path forks at the latter - you can either go uphill to the left along a fence, or straight ahead rather flatter past a small stream. We chose the first variant and climbed a very steep path - but since we knew from our two previous visits that the alternative is very muddy, the steep ascent seemed the better option. We followed this path for a few minutes until a larch basin. This had to be crossed until we reached the extensive alpine area of the Bärenalm. Altogether, we were on the way for one hour and 50 minutes. On the Bärenalm, the view of our daily goal appeared for the first time - an impressive rock wall and still about 400 meters of altitude - let's go!

Past the idyllic first hut, the route continued easily uphill towards Türkenkarscharte - initially over the alpine meadow, finally over a beautiful forest path. This was partly trampled by cows and a bit muddy in places - these spots can either be avoided, or they are covered by boards. So, after 2 hours and 10 minutes, we arrived at Türkenkarscharte. To the left it goes to Große Scheibe and Kleine Scheibe (both visited by us last year) - for us, however, it went to the right. Now a steep meadow section, a forest path, larch lanes and some rock passages alternated. The path was always clearly visible, if not marked. We crossed three small streams and finally reached a saddle showing our destination and further route. Through some larches, then a wide meadow opened before us - over this it went uphill to the summit - and it was very hot to walk here, without shade under the mercilessly shining sun. The view of our destination shifted this effort into the background. The last summit ascent took place on rock, but was not difficult to walk. Surefootedness is an advantage, but the passages are not exposed, so no need for a head for heights. And then, after 3 hours of ascent, we reached the long-awaited summit of the Hirscheck!

After an extensive summit rest, we started the descent again. This took place on the ascent route, with a short break for refreshments at the Schafferreith.
