The Ferlacher Spitze is the widely visible satellite of the mighty Mittagskogel. Although the summit at 1,742 meters is much lower than its big brother next door, the ascent is no less rewarding. To get started, a wide service road leads from the starting point Tschemernitzen up to the Rossalm at 1,080 meters above sea level. Here, a hut of the Slovenian Alpine Club, which is open on weekends during the summer months, invites you to rest. From this point, the path becomes a bit more challenging: a steadily ascending forest trail leads to the Berta Hut at 1,567 meters. Here you can rest again before you dare the half-hour, very steep ascent to the Ferlacher Spitze. As a reward, not only awaits the magnificent view of the turquoise-blue Faaker See but also the impressive sight of the Mittagskogel from close up. As with all mountain routes, sturdy footwear and good equipment are mandatory.
