Bacon bread, fresh cheese, and homemade cake - the friendly alpine hosts like to treat hikers with a typical alpine snack.
The mostly shaded hike leads via Kraimoos and “Stachl am Brand” up to the cozy Herrenalm (842 m), which is staffed in summer. Herrenalm was first mentioned in documents in 1543. Even then, the alpine pasture served as summer grazing for young cattle. Alpine life was marked by hard work, but there was always time for alpine dancing or convivial evenings. Every year from around mid-May to the end of September, the young cattle are allowed on the alpine pasture and enjoy lush green meadows with nutritious mountain herbs, while the dairymaid treats hikers with a typical alpine snack and homemade cake.
For the return, we take the hiking trail to the salt stairway, descend the approximately 250 steps to the iron bridge that crosses the Schauergraben, and return via Kraimoos to the village.
