Roadbook
Start at the Berggasthof Schönblick in Völser Aicha. First, follow a short ascent marked towards Sesselschwaige. Then follows an almost level, beautiful, and long forest path. After about 1 hour, a rocky but well-developed steep ascent begins. The so-called and interesting Prügel or Knüppelweg also connects here, before you reach Sesselschwaige, a good place to stop, after about 2 hours.
From here, the further path to Hammerwand is marked as a via ferrata. Apart from a few rope-secured sections, this path is manageable for sure-footed hikers. However, it is somewhat strenuous as the path alternates continuously between ups and downs. After 1.5 hours from Sesselschwaige, you reach the summit cross of Hammerwand.
Then follow a well-marked path downhill to the Tschafonhütte, another good place to stop. Here, before, a 20-minute ascent to the Völseggspitze (also called Tschafon) is recommended, with a wonderful view towards Bolzano.
From the Tschafonhütte, there are 3 descent options. We chose the one to Wunleger. First, a steep, not very pleasant descent along the access road. From Wuhnleger, then a very pleasant forest path wonderfully embedded in the landscape leads almost level first to Völsegg and then back to the Schönblick restaurant.
