Halbingsattel-Singerberg circular route
Bf. Weizelsdorf/Forecourt-Kappel/Drau-Dornach-Singerbauer-western Josefbauer-Halbingsattel-Singerberg-Suanitze-eastern Josefbauer-Singerbauer-Dornach-Kappel/Drau-Bf. Weizelsdorf
We leave Bf. Weizelsdorf and approach, via the villages of Kappel an der Drau and Dornach, the densely forested northern foothills of the Singerberg. It is part of the Drau range or the northern forelands of the southern Limestone Alps - in a triangular shape, we experience on about 17 km a sequence of gently ascending paths, but also very steep trails. Passing Singerbauer, we hike west of Josefsbauer uphill to Halbingsattel/Albink, then eastwards on a gravel road with several viewpoints enjoying the views north into the deep Rosental valley with the Drau river and towards the Klagenfurt field. To the south, we also recognize parts of the Boden valley and the mighty peaks of the Karawanken (Rijautza and Selenitza (left), Vertatscha, Bielschitza and possibly Hochstuhl). All these wonderful impressions make the effort of the ascent worthwhile! We complete the triangle on a partly steep descent path towards Singerbauer and Bf. Weizelsdorf.

DETAILED ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
1. After the western bypass of the station area (430 m), we turn left, east, and hike in a right curve towards the village of Kappel a. d. Drau. Past the guesthouse Auszeit, we take path no. 654 southwards, turn half-left at a wayside shrine after about 600 m and pass southwest of the village Dornach.
2. At the forest edge, we enter hiking trail no. 654, hike uphill east of the Hudigraben and take the 1st break at SH 620 m, 2.5 km after the 2nd bend. Climbing further, we meet hiking trail no. 3 coming from the left after approx. 1.1 km. We turn right, west, and shortly afterwards take the 2nd break at Singerbauer/wayside shrine 3.5 km, 831 m.
3. We hike southwest, go straight at the trail junction, leave the clearing and the municipal boundary of Ferlach now with path no. 655 and shortly thereafter at the trail junction (894 m) turn south and slightly uphill. The gravel path leads southwest and becomes steeper towards Halbingsattel – at SH 1100 m we take the 3rd break 6.2 km.
4. After about 400 m, we meet a main forestry road (HWW) – we turn right, west, and leave it on a partly steep path after about 100 m going southwest. About 500 m later, we cross another HWW – after a steep ascent we reach Halbingsattel/Albink and take the 4th break, 7.7 km, 1360 m.
5. We leave path no. 655 and turn left, east with path no. 657. Passing viewpoints and slightly uphill on a gravel road, we walk along the ridge of the Singerberg, crossing the municipal boundary of Feistritz im Rosental/Ferlach shortly before the trail junction (1556 m). We continue eastwards, now on path no. 654, and after about 900 m reach the highest point of the day hike, the Singerberg/Žingarca (5th break, 10.3 km, 1589 m).
ALTERNATIVE: We hike about 200 m further east to a viewpoint, then return to the trail junction.
6. Shortly after the highest point, we turn south and descend steeply on path no. 654, pass the regions Suanitze (right) and Geierkopf (left), and after the 3rd crossing of an HWW take the 6th break, 12.2 km, 1190 m. We stay on a slightly less steep path, cross another HWW and after about 1.8 km reach the Singerbauer (near the wayside shrine, see 2nd break) – 7th and last break, 13.7 km, 831 m.
7. On the way back to Bf. Weizelsdorf (17.2 km, 430 m) we follow downhill paths no. 3 and 654, passing Dornach and Kappel an der Drau. Return: possibly already 15:19 or preferably 16:19.
