From the parking lot just below the large quarry, you first go over a wide and easy forest road to the Vilser Alm at about 1230 m above sea level. Depending on preference, this path can be done either on foot or by bike. I like to take the mountain bike on such paths because the return can be done much faster and I generally enjoy it more. But the walk with the Alpstrudelfall also has quite something to offer.
You leave the bike at the Alm and continue on the road heading south. From here, the summit is already signposted. Shortly afterwards, the road changes into a hiking trail. At the inconspicuous fork at about 1268 meters, take the left branch and follow the mountain hiking trail now becoming a bit steeper up towards the southeast. Follow this trail until you reach a meltwater lake at 1526 meters. Here, the path forks again. If you keep right towards the southwest, you reach the Füssener Jöchl. If you take the right path heading south, directly over the lake, you eventually reach the Vilser Scharte at 1817 meters. The path is initially flat but steepens significantly, first through larches, then over a scree field up. From about 1750 meters, the difficulty to the Vilser Scharte increases again. Over exposed but well secured passages with ropes and ladders, the ascent is exciting but fantastic.
From the notch, the path gets easier again. At the notch follow left towards the northeast, through larches first flat, then getting steeper, past Kleine Schlicke up to a fork at about 1930 meters. Here, turn left heading north and climb the last 120 vertical meters steeply to the summit. The path is a bit rocky/blocky but easy.
The return path is the same as the ascent. It is worth stopping at the Alm for refreshment for those who want to relax after the route.
