Southeast ridge traverse (II+) - Multereck
Grimming is one of the most striking mountains of Styria, standing like a massive rock island isolated between Ennstal and Hinterbergertal. Although geographically part of the Dachstein mountain range, it is clearly distinguished from Dachstein by the deeply carved Salza gorge. Its isolation probably led to it being considered in earlier times as the highest mountain in Styria. Today, it is known to be surpassed in height by several peaks, but the 1700-meter rock wall rising over the Ennstal remains impressive, especially for those planning to climb it, as there is no road that would facilitate access to the summit. The hut is also located quite low, so one has to manage about 1400 meters of ascent in a day. Those who have not only the required fitness but also mountaineering experience are recommended to ascend via the southeast ridge.
