Under the slogan "Three regions, three languages, three huts, one path," the hut wardens of the Medelser, Motterascio, and Läntahütte mountain huts launched an alpine hiking route that leads in four days from Curaglia at the Lukmanier Pass to Zervreila near Vals. This "Greina Alta" is a gem for alpine hikers as it also includes the world-famous Greina plateau. And the best part: with a phone call to one of the three huts or by filling out the form on the Medelserhütte website, you can book the whole package. The route not only connects three huts but also three cultural and linguistic areas – Romansh, Italian, and the old Walser culture –, which is part of the well-thought-out concept. It also holds much interest: for example, in the past, crossings such as the Soreda Pass were among the frequently used routes of transhumance, the seasonal migratory movements that allowed for the use of high alpine pastures for livestock.
