If the fog in the valley does not lift, you hike here above the sea of fog. With clear visibility, the view touches an endless mountain panorama. The route demands no great fitness due to the moderate distance of approx. 800 m altitude gain over 8.5 km, but surefootedness is required when crossing the Stoder and also when descending from the Stoder summit.
Author’s recommendation
Be sure to plan a stop at the Bergfriedhütte. Wonderful view of Lake Millstatt, excellent cuisine, a beautiful dining room combined with a very friendly host.

Via Neuschitz you can drive on a good alpine road (toll) to the Bergfriedhütte (1775m). Just before the hut, leave your vehicle and follow the signposting towards Gmeineck (the route can also be easily walked in the opposite direction). The path to Gmeineck leads over gentle alpine pastures and steeply ascending mountain meadows. The last meters to the summit you hike on light block terrain. From the summit, descend about 30 minutes the same way and then stay on the ridge, which leads northeast to the Stoder. Here you must overcome a well-cabled notch. From the Stoder, descend first along the ridge, then over gentle alpine meadows, passing another cable-secured notch, until you reach the car again. The view to the north towards Hochalm, Hohe Leier, Reitereck, and many more is magnificent. To the south, with good visibility, the entire panorama of the Carinthian border mountains stretches out. Lake Millstatt is always at your feet.
