We hike to the village St. Lorenzen im Gitschtal, where we encounter the European long-distance path E10/Rupertiweg as well as the Julius Kugy three-country trail (stage 27), and cross the Bistritzbach. On paths No. 12 and 245, via the Jadersdorfer Ochsenalm on service and forest roads, we reach our intermediate destination, the Kohlröslhütte. We have now arrived in the Spitzegel group.

Via the Lorenzenhochalm and the Sattelköpfe we hike to the steep viewpoint hill Golz, which offers us a wonderful view. On a comfortable descent, we reach the Radniger Alm and the Möschacher Alm and the lovely Laudinzenhütte on the Obervellacher Alm. After a partly steep descent, we reach the well-preserved Ruine Khünburg and shortly thereafter the end of our two-day hike, the Pressegger See.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

    1.  From the bus stop Weissensee Straße B 87 Golz (710 m) we hike down the access road towards St. Lorenzen im Gitschtal (direction NE) to the Gösseringbach and then gently uphill to the first road intersection (and a fountain) – we turn right, SE. Now we follow the European long-distance path E 10/Rupertiweg about 200 m north and meet the Julius Kugy-Dreiländerweg, stage 27.

    2.  At the intersection we turn right, NE, cross the Bistritzbach and then hike northeast past the church – here starts path No. 12 and the forest road (gravel). At the first left bend we ignore two right-turning paths – after about 3.3 km from the intersection the path No. 245 (Jadersdorf) comes from the right, here we take the 1st break, 4 km, 1,080 m.

    3.  After approx. 400 m we meet a forest road coming from the right – we take a sharp left turn, NW, then after about 300 m at a fork choose the forest road right, NE. After about 300 m we meet again a forest road (2nd break, 5.2 km, 1240 m).

    4.  The well-marked path brings us to the south side of the Jadersdorfer Ochsenalm – here path No. 245 leads us by a trail southeast to the Kohlröslhütte (3rd, longer break, 6.8 km, 1,533 m).

    5.  We follow – accompanied by the Gailtaler Höhenweg (229), now stage 28 of the Julius Kugy Trail and path No. 245 and 25 – from the hut (1533m) steadily uphill on a natural path heading east until we meet a forest road after about 500 m. We then hike right, NE, to the Lorenzer Hochalm and north past the Sattelköpfe – at the start of the trail to Golz we take the 4th break, 8.9 km, 1694 m.

    6.  The partly natural path and trail leads us upwards to the viewpoint hill Golz (5th break, 10 km, 2004 m).

    7.  With path No. 245 and 16 we now descend to Radniger Alm and Radniger Sattel. We pass north of Radniger Hut (possibly visit the hut for its varied design), crossing a forest road, then choose the trail going uphill (No. 247) to Möschacher Alm – (6th break, 12 km, 1665 m).

    8.  We hike southeast over meadows into a forest – the trail with path No. 247 leads us east of Obervellacher Alm – a detour to the managed Laudinzenhütte (path No. 248) allows the 7th, longer break, 13.6 km, 1680 m).

    9.  From Obervellacher Alm/Laudinzenhütte (1710 m) we follow an access road downhill to the Pressegger See region. After about 1.4 km we leave the road sharply southwest and descend on a faint trail – we meet the same road again and shortly turn right to a hiking sign.

    10.  The natural trail leads us in a double S-shape partly steeply down to the same access road – we follow it left, southeast to Obervellacher Stand – here we take the 8th break, 16.9 km, 1115 m. On the way to Khünburg ruin disregard two right and one left turning gravel paths (9th break, 21.2 km, 830 m).

    11.  After about 400 m we leave the access road and follow the hiking sign right, south and gently downhill, then after crossing a gravel path reach the Brusnbründl water source. Here path No. 17 leads directly to the Presseggersee train stop (23.2 km, 573 m)
