Via Doppelgleis to the highest and most challenging mountain of the Alvier group.
The Gamsberg or Gemsler, as called by locals, is the highest peak of the Alvier group, which forms the eastern connection to the Churfirsten. Like the Churfirsten, the peaks of the Alvier group are characterized by steep rock faces falling southward. Unlike the Churfirsten, the peaks of the Alvier group are little developed except for the eponymous Alvier and the Margelchopf. The Gamsberg has the shape of a massive, grassy block dissected by rock ribs and gullies with an almost horizontal, 500-meter-long summit ridge that drops almost vertically towards the Sichelchamm. Its form suggests that you need the abilities of a chamois to conquer the summit. The easiest route leads through a broad, approximately 50° steep gully on the northeast flank, which got its name "Doppelgleis" because of its appearance.
