From Wasserauen via the Rotstein Pass to the Säntis
This rewarding mountain hike leads from Wasserauen to the Rotstein Pass and further over the Lisengrat to the Säntis.
From Wasserauen, the path initially leads up the Hüttentobel, past the alpine cottages. Before Gross Hütten, turn left and first walk a bit straight ahead, then steeply upwards onto the Schrennenweg, from where you look down onto the Seealpsee. It continues on the well-secured path over Stockegg and Kreuzböhl to Meglisalp. Past the alp on the left, it goes up towards Spitzigstein and to Alp Oberchellen, then over pastureland, later rocky, steadily upwards to the Rotstein Pass, where the Altmann, the second highest peak in the Alpstein, rises next to the guesthouse. From here, sure-footedness and freedom from dizziness is necessary, as it continues over the Lisengrat to the Säntis. The Lisengrat was long a reference route for difficulty level T4, but since it was upgraded and equipped with significantly more wire ropes, it is now marked red-white and is a T3 in the upper section.
