Selected alternatives for you
The southern ascent to the Feuerkogel starts in Miesenbachmühle, leads through the Mühlleitengraben to the "Gsoll" and from there over ski slopes, alpine pastures, and forest terrain to the highest point.

This route is - up to the "Gsoll" - undoubtedly the least frequented ascent to the cable car mountain Feuerkogel. The hike starts at the edge of the small village Miesenbachmühle and then follows forest roads for a longer distance to the Haselwaldstube hunting lodge (about 845 m).

From here, you either continue along the forest road or use - much nicer - the marked hiking trail to the "Gsoll" saddle. For this, leave the road directly at the hunting lodge, ascend through the forest, cross the forest road again, and continue hiking through the forest up to the "Gsoll".

Here you meet the hiking trail leading directly up from Ebensee. Then follow a longer stretch again through mixed forest until you finally reach the piste area. From here sometimes on the ski slope, sometimes shortcutting it to the Kranabeth hut (1,530 m) and similarly up to the mountain station of the Feuerkogel cable car.

    Author’s recommendation

Since every small, insignificant hill on the Feuerkogel has a name, this offers summit collectors an abundance of "summit victories".

    Safety information

The hiking trail between Haselwaldstube and "Gsoll" is well marked but seldom used and therefore not always very clearly visible.

    Tips and suggestions

Hikers are rarely encountered up to the "Gsoll", but quite a few mountain bikers (most of them with e-bikes). This route is also the official MTB route on the Feuerkogel.

    Roadbook

We start where a forest road meets the valley road at the edge of the village Miesenbachmühle (several signposts).

We hike uphill on this forest road until we reach a road junction (two yellow signposts). Here we keep right and follow the forest road steadily uphill until we reach the Haselwaldstube hunting lodge at about 845 m above sea level.

Now we leave the road and follow the red-white-red marked trail uphill through mixed forest. The trail is not always very well defined as it is used only very little. After about 15 minutes we reach the forest road again. Here you have to find the continuation of the hiking trail. For this, keep slightly right and again cross the forest through the Mühlleitengraben to the saddle "Gsoll".

Here you meet the hiking trail coming up from Ebensee, which is much more frequented.

We turn left, cross another wooded area, and then finally reach the ski slope area. Now partly on the ski slope or shortcutting it on trails to the Kranabeth hut (1,530 m). From here the last short stretch on the ski slope (sometimes even asphalted!) to the mountain station of the Feuerkogel (1,592 m). A number of inns here offer catering for excursionists and mountain hikers.

    Public transport

    Public-transport-friendly

For this route, travel by train is advisable. The Attnang-Puchheim - Stainach-Irdning railway line (Salzkammergut Railway) brings the hiker to Steinkogl station. From here, it is only about 0.9 km to the starting point. From the station to the bridge over the Traun and then left on the valley road to the starting point.

    Directions

If you arrive by car, for example, take the motorway exit Laakirchen-West (Steyrermühl) to Gmunden and always continue on the Salzkammergut federal road to Ebensee. Ebensee is also easily accessible by road from other directions.

From Ebensee town center, drive always to the right of the Traun to the starting point.

    Parking

There are only very few parking spaces at the starting point. These are free.

Kann ich nicht sagen, aber der GPX-Track ist richtig, lässt sich problemlos herunterladen und auf mein Garmin Etrex30 laden.
