Berggasthof PattenbergSafety information
Absolute surefootedness, a head for heights, and some climbing skills are necessary for the ascent of EngelsteinRoadbook
From the parking lot of the Hochfelln cable car southwards to the Eisenhammer guesthouse and now somewhat monotonously on the paved Pattenberger Street steadily gently uphill to the former Pettenberg guesthouse. Behind it, along a forest road next to the game enclosure, gently uphill through the forest to a clearing. Here follow the signpost "Engelstein" and hike on a forest trail on the east ridge of the Engelstein, finally in steep switchbacks down to the rock base. The solid rock of the east ridge is crossed by many stable roots that serve well as handholds. This quickly leads you under a vertical wall step, which is climbed upwards slightly leaning to the right on somewhat thinned but solid rock grips (key point UIAA II-). Short rocky ridge bumps and rocky slabs then lead clearly easier again up to the summit cross with a book.
Descend along the ascent. A short detour leads around the north side of the rock base on a narrow path into the saddle west of the Engelstein. Over some rocky ridge bumps, the somewhat lower west summit can be reached via the east ridge on unmarked footpaths.
Descent along the ascent.
