The Eidechsspitze in the Pfunderer Valley is one of the most popular peaks in South Tyrol: initially moderately difficult, then high alpine, the path runs through meadows and forests and later exposed up to the summit. From Terenten, we ascend along a rushing mountain stream to the cozy Tiefrasten Hut, then continue to the idyllic Kompfoßsee and over beautiful but challenging mountain paths up to the Eidechsspitze.

    Roadbook

The starting point of the mountain route is the parking lot in the Winnebachtal near Terenten. It can be reached via the Pustertaler Sonnenstraße from Vintl. We first hike into the valley northwards and after crossing the stream continue towards Astnerbergalm. Always on the left side of the stream, we walk to the top of the valley station of a material cable car, where we reach a fork in the path.

To get to the Eidechsspitze, we take path no. 23 to the Tiefrasten Hut, passing through a larch forest and up to the beginning of the pasture areas of Huberalm. There, a narrow mountain path to the Tiefrasten Hut branches off to the left at a red arrow marking. On this path, we ascend steeply next to a roaring waterfall and cross below the Kempspitze the wide valley basin towards the west. Keeping right and over a small step, we bypass a small valley and hike uphill to the Tiefrasten Hut. After a short break, we continue northwest up to the mountain station of the material cable car.

On path no. 22, we hike over a broad ridge and then diagonally across a scree field to the beautifully situated Kompfoßsee. North of the lake, we ascend on path no. 22 to the Eidechsspitze. The path initially goes with gentle ups and downs over a wide ridge, then crosses a steep slope to the summit. The last few meters lead easily on switchbacks to the summit cross. The same route is recommended for the return journey.
