The Eibenberg got its name in the 16th century from the yew tree, also called the tree of death. The yew wood, deadly poisonous to humans, was prized for making bows. Especially in late autumn, when the fog does not lift in the lowlands and valleys, you can still soak up enough sun at Eibenberg. Even if there is already snow in the summit area, pleasant temperatures are found due to the heated southern slopes. With good visibility, there is a magnificent panoramic view from the Eibenberg. Starting from the Alpine foothills in the north, the Sengsengebirge in the east, the entire Dead Mountains in the south, and finally the Dachstein in the southwest. The Großglockner is also visible above the Hohe Schrott. The ascent poses no alpine demands. Surefootedness and a head for heights should, however, still be present.
Author’s recommendation
In summer, after the sweaty mountain route, the nearby Offensee provides a welcome refreshment. For those seeking more adventure, take the Offenseestraße downstream to the high bridge over the Offenseebach. (Limited parking available) Directly before the bridge, an inconspicuous path on the right leads down to the stream. After a few hundred meters upstream, you reach fantastic pools.

Safety information
In snow, the path can sometimes be very muddy and therefore slippery. Special caution is required on the descent in the upper, steep section.Tips and suggestions
Hike around the Offensee. Especially in late autumn a welcome conclusion to the mountain route.Roadbook
From the parking lot back over the bridge of the Offenseebach. Immediately after the bridge begins the well-marked path. Initially flat through sparse beech forest. Later becoming increasingly steep, passing the Hiaslalm. In the upper part, there are some insignificant rock bands to overcome, which are partly equipped with footholds. Upon reaching the ridge, turn right and continue just a few altitude meters along path No. 425 over the Eibenbergschneid to the summit. Descent as ascent.
