Lesser known route to the striking mountain at Mondsee, which is famous for its spectacular rock face, the popular via ferrata, the rope bridge, and the Drachenwand window. This path allows you to ascend the Drachenwand faster and with fewer altitude meters.
The well-known ascent starts from Mondsee. Alternatively, there is an ascent option from Fuschl am See that involves fewer altitude meters and is much faster. The parking lot mainly serves hikers heading to Eibensee; the trail initially follows the same path. Following a forest road, altitude is steadily gained over the first 40 minutes on a moderately steep path. On the left, you will see the remains of a forest hut, where the path also turns left. This new forest road continues in a wide arc to the left and ends in the forest. Shortly before the end, a small trail branches off to the right and climbs steeply for a few minutes. Upon reaching the following saddle, you get your first view of the summit cross. Here, the trails from Fuschl and Mondsee converge. The last part is rocky and requires a head for heights and surefootedness.
A special highlight is the Drachenwand window, which spectacularly frames the view of Mondsee. Immediately after, you reach the summit - the view stretches over the lake, the Schafberg, the peaks Schober and Frauenkopf, and much further.
