The ascent: On the opposite side of the parking lot begins a marked path (signpost: Dietrichshorn) across a meadow. This leads into the forest and crosses the forest road several times, which can of course also be used. Arriving at about 1200m, follow the forest road about 100m to the right until you reach a junction with a signpost. However, the path continues straight ahead towards Hoisenhöhe (Dietrichshorn for experienced hikers) and soon reaches the beautiful meadow area of the Unkenbergmähder. Here you can either stay on the alpine road or cut across the meadow. On the meadow, follow a small path past an alpine farm with a barn. Then continue to the western side of Dietrichshorn, where the via ferrata begins. Over the partially secured path, you will reach the summit partly via a ladder.
The descent: From the summit downwards, take the first rock ledge as on the ascent, but at the signpost, follow the signage towards Thällernalm. Follow this partly very challenging path in switchbacks to a fork in the forest. From here, continue towards Thällernalm. At the height of the alpine pasture, you will meet the service road, which leads down to the ascent route.
