Scheibe and Scheiblingstein are the last two summits on the ridge that Dürrenstein extends eastwards towards Ötscher.
The ascent is a demanding hike.
Ascent and descent mostly start from where the Taglesbach flows into the Ois (Ybbs).
The path is marked only with cairns, but is still easy to find.
The upper part of the ascent and descent is very steep and requires surefootedness and light climbing.
For the descent, I suggest taking the path northwards – to the Durchlass and onward to Maierhöfen or Lunz.
This descent is similar to the ascent via the "Fleck", but consistently a bit steeper.
Author’s recommendation
The crossing of Scheibe/Scheiblingstein can be done well if a vehicle (of course a bicycle) is parked in Maierhöfen (4 km cycling from the start point to the end point of the hike).
If we descend towards Lunzer See, the hiking distance is 1 km shorter, but you have to reposition 14 km (park the vehicle at Schloss Seehof).
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Where the B71 (Zellerrain Road) crosses the Taglesbach 4 km south of Maierhöfen (= access road to Lackenhof), there is a parking lot before and after the bridge. North of the Taglesbach begins the marked trail over the Herrenalm to Dürrenstein.
We start on this trail but turn 50 meters past the signposts at a double beech tree at a right angle towards Scheiblingstein.
No signposts! – the path is marked only with cairns but is easy to find. About 1 1/2 hours (just over 600 meters of elevation) you climb on a beautiful path in the forest until you reach "Am Fleck", emerging from the forest onto the open summit meadow.
Now it gets steeper and you can take it a bit slower. A steep gully becomes visible that leads to the saddle between Scheiblingstein and Scheibe.
This part of the ascent is unpleasant when wet.
Once at the saddle, you can ascend left to the 1622 m high Scheiblingstein (view is worse than from Scheibe) and/or right to the 1602 m high Scheibe.
If you go to Scheibe, there is a steep step to overcome where you can also use your hands to climb.
After this steep section, you reach the flat Scheibe covered with dwarf pines.
After a few meters, a path leads left through the dwarf pines to a clear spot with a cross offering a magnificent view of Lunzer See, the Hetzkogel, and the Mostviertel.
After enjoying the view, go back. Just before the steep descent (from Scheibe) now take the path to the left and shortly climb to the summit crosses on top of Scheibe.
Here you'll be rewarded with a beautiful view of Ötscher, Gemeindealpe, Schneeberg, Hohe Veitsch, Zellerhüte, and Hochschwab.
On the descent, go down to the point where you came up from the left "vom Fleck".
Nearby, you will find ascent tracks coming from the right side (Lunzer See).
Here we start the descent to the "Durchlass".
First, it goes steeply down a gully between rocks, keeping slightly to the left.
The path is always easy to find and marked with cairns.
Always staying left under the rock walls, after 400 meters of descent a (also unmarked) path from Durchlassalm joins from the left.
We cross a mountain ridge to the left and continue descending towards Lunzer See.
We reach a forest road; you can use the forest road now, but it’s shorter if you take the shortcuts marked with cairns.
After about 850 meters of descent, you reach the "Durchlass", an alpine pasture between Scheiblingstein and Maißzinken.
The shorter further descent is marked and goes left to Lunzer See (1.8 km).
We take the approximately 2.8 km long, also marked trail no. 6 to Maierhöfen, where we have left a bicycle at the Ybbs bridge.
A volunteer cycles this bike 4 km slightly uphill to our starting point at the Taglesbach confluence and picks up the car.
