Vichren, the highest peak of the Pirin mountain range, can be reached from both the north and the south side. Therefore, a crossing is recommended. If you choose the south side for ascent and the north side for descent, you can either return to the Vichren Hut or go to the Banderitsa Hut.

    Author’s recommendation

In midsummer, the sun exposure can be very intense. The best seasons are early summer (from around mid-June) and autumn.

    Roadbook

The path starts opposite the Vichren Hut. Follow the red trail marker towards Vichren. At the trail junction (approx. 2,150 m elevation) keep left – right leads to the emergency shelter Kazana and the ascent from the north. Attention: both paths are marked red.

Continue westward uphill to an elevation of about 2,600 meters. Here the path turns south ascending a slope and about 50 m higher along a ridge towards the north. Then always ascend the summit slope to the summit.

On the north side, the descent from the summit leads to the Premetka saddle; this section includes some secured passages. At the saddle do not go straight on, but turn right (red-green marker) towards the emergency shelter Kazana. Below it follow along; shortly afterwards the path splits: left follows the green marking to the Banderitsa Hut, right marked red back to the Vichren Hut.

On the green-marked path first through dwarf pines, later through forest to the Banderitsa Hut.
