Especially at the highest point of the route, the 3019-meter-high Gamsplatzl, there are wonderful wide views to the Ötztal Alps.

    Author’s recommendation

Along the way, you should plan a detour for a short break at the Triebenkarsee. Really experienced mountaineers can also ascend the Gaiskogel from Gamsplatzl via the north ridge (III+ UIAA).

    Roadbook

From the Hildesheimer Hut, you first follow the hut access trail southwest downhill for a short distance, but soon turn left to follow path 140 to the Siegerland Hut. This path crosses (mostly descending) the steep slope southeast below the Hildesheimer Hut (partly with the help of steel cables) and leads to a glacier stream, which is crossed using a bridge. On the other side, it ascends eastwards in a few switchbacks and then continues roughly along the terrain edge towards the southeast.

In the boulder area, light climbing (also partly with steel cables here) is used to ascend to the Gamsplatzl north of Gaskogel. It offers great views and, as the highest point of the route, is ideal for a longer break.

On the other side, the path first goes steeply and also slippery down, then flatter through scree, and once again in steeper switchbacks down to the Triebenkarsee. East of it, depending on glacier runoff, streams need to be crossed. Especially until mid-July, the bridges are not always set up due to meltwater, so crossing especially the Triebenkarlasbach requires increased concentration.

Then it goes uphill for a short distance and continues on now a better path south of the Scheiblehnwand at about the same elevation towards the south. The path then turns east again and leads over to the already visible Siegerland Hut, crossing some rocky terrain again just at the end.
