Alpengasthof Kasern (1620 m)Safety information
The ascent from the Frauenscharte over the ridge to the summit is partly quite exposed and requires a certain surefootedness. Especially in autumn, when there is already some snow or ice on the north side, you should be particularly careful during the ascent.Roadbook
From the parking lot (Obern), first follow a narrow road southeast towards the hamlet of Kasern. Shortly after the Alpengasthof Kasern, near three beautifully situated alpine huts, a forest road with No. 324 continues into the Kaserer Valley. After about half an hour, you reach a signpost in front of a bridge; take the right path here and continue along the valley floor. Another half hour later, you finally reach the Kasererwinkel, where the wide forest road ends and turns into a trail that leads over rocky terrain up to the Peter Habeler route. As soon as you reach the circular route, you will also find a signpost; turn left here and follow the trail with No. 527, which winds quite steeply upwards to the Kasererschartl. Although there is a signpost at the Schartl, you will find no indication for the further route to the Small Kaserer—it is not marked but easy to find with some experience. From the Schartl, turn right and follow the north ridge (Kaserergrat) up to the summit. The narrow beaten path is quite steep; the remaining 600 meters of elevation can therefore be covered fairly quickly. After enjoying the wonderful panorama at the summit, the descent leads down the west ridge (between the Kaserer and Wildlahn valleys). Navigation here is a bit more challenging; twice you must overcome easier climbing sections (grade II). You should always try to stay on the ridge and avoid descending into the valley flanks; then you can easily reach the Kleegrubenscharte. From there, head northeast following the Peter Habeler route back down into the Kaserer Valley and then follow the forest road back to the starting point.

Follow the Brenner federal road to Stafflach, turn left there and drive into the Schmirn valley. Follow the state road to the end of the valley to the district of Ladins, where you turn left at a bus turning area. Shortly thereafter, you can park between the road and the creek parallel to the farms of "Obern".
If you plan to visit the Alpengasthof Kasern after the tour, you can also park there by arrangement with the landlady. To do so, turn right at the bus turning area and drive over a long meadow to the inn, beautifully situated in front of the Kaserer farms.
