Starting with a moderate incline, the path initially leads us over the lateral moraine of the Simony Glacier into the rocky terrain of the Rostocker Eck. Here, the hiker encounters well-built stepping stones from past generations that have lasted nearly a century. At the summit, with clear visibility, you will enjoy a wonderful mountain panorama with views to the hut, over the Maurertal from Großer Geiger, Simony Peaks and Malham Peaks to the Lasörling range further south. In the initially steep, fine scree western descent, the path passes a short secured section back into easier terrain. With a beautiful view of the Schanilbach, the path leads past a refreshing watering spot with slight uphill sections back to the Essen-Rostocker Hut.
Author’s recommendation
In good weather, a technically easy route, with several spots inviting rest especially on the descent.
In my opinion, the reverse direction is less recommended, as the ascent to the summit becomes lengthy.
The reverse direction is, however, suitable if the descent to the Simony Lake is intended on the return journey.
This descent is only possible off-trail over the scree slope and is reserved for sure-footed hikers. Falling rocks are also to be expected. (This significantly changes the requirements of the route!)

Directly at the winter hut of the Essen-Rostocker House, the ascent begins along the lateral moraine of the Simony Glacier. Here, path No. 920 initially overlaps with path No. 919 of our circular route, the Carl-Bremer path. We follow the moraine westward to its end, where the path branches at a signpost in the first rocky section. From here, unmistakably on the left and already in a southerly direction, the ascent to the summit begins. The overall marking of this round is somewhat faded due to age, but in snow-free conditions with clear visibility, the path is hardly to be missed. In particular, the many stone steps here make the relatively short ascent easier. Already a few meters before the summit, the rear descent consisting of fine scree is immediately visible. After the first steeper 20 meters, the path passes a roughly five-meter-long secured section at about a constant height. The following section is marked with three larger cairns and leads to a signpost indicating the way back to the Essen-Rostocker Hut.
