Cima di Morissolo

The mountain route takes us from Oggiono up to Monte Morissolo, considered the only point from which one can view the entire Lake Maggiore. Both ends of the elongated lake can be seen from Cima di Morissolo with its three crosses. A panoramic board precisely displays the view, so we know which mountain or place on the lake shore we are looking at. From Morissolo, there is also a fantastic view down to Cannero Riviera. The town has made Morissolo its local mountain. At the summit of Morissolo, you can not only admire the view: there are old tunnels and fortifications of the Linea Cadorna, a defense line from the First World War. The fortifications were intended to prevent a German invasion of Italy via Switzerland; however, this never happened, and the Linea Cadorna was never used. Today it is an important piece of Italian history and attracts especially military tourists.
