A route that will let you appreciate high-altitude nature from where you can admire the Ortles Cevedale Group and the Adamello Presanella Group.

Challenging route of medium difficulty that leads, through a solitary and secluded area, to Cima Cadinel. The route is characterized by different environments: the wooded trail leading to Malga Campo, where the view towards the west opens on Cevedale and the Redival-Boai subgroup, continues uphill among larches, in a wild valley until reaching the grassy terraces of Baito del Cadinel. This peaceful place invites a longer rest. Then the path goes along grassy slopes to reach Lago Cadinel and then the Passo Cadinel. The trail continues up to Cima Cadinel, a wonderful panoramic point from which you can observe Val di Peio and the Ortles-Cevedale chain where Vioz stands out among all.

    Author’s recommendation

The last section that leads from the pass to Cima Cadinel features simple rock jumps, but they are somewhat exposed.
We suggest taking a break at Malga Campo to enjoy traditional dishes. In case of bad weather, the Baito del Cadinel bivouac is a good shelter.

    Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike we suggest you:

    • choose a route suitable for your fitness level. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
    • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the operating hours of lifts, if your itinerary requires their use. Remember that route accessibility in mountain environments is strictly linked to current conditions and depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. Therefore, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting off
    • leave information about your itinerary and approximate return time and carry your mobile phone
    • pay attention to the indications and signage you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white markings on stones or trees
    • book in advance the hut or refuge where you intend to stop for food or sleep
    • never leave waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at refuges or huts you visit
    • if you spot wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the trail you are following, do not approach too closely, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to avoid it instinctively chasing them and frightening them

    Roadbook

Starting from the village of Celentino, follow the forest road towards Malga Campo to reach the locality Sant' Antonio, where you leave the car (1,810 m). Then follow the path to Malga Campo on foot for 200 meters until the left fork where you follow the SAT 132 trail which reaches Malga Campo (1,979 m) in about 30 minutes. Once you reach Malga Campo, follow the SAT 132 trail uphill towards Malga Sassa, turning right just before the hut - view of Ortles Cevedale and Presanella. After crossing a stream, the path becomes narrow and features many switchbacks leading to the high-altitude pastures near Baito Cadinel (2,419 m). The trail continues semi-flat on wide grassy slopes up to Lago Cadinel (2,521 m) from which you begin to see the cross placed on Cima Vegaia. You walk the last climb up to Passo Cadinel at 2,730 m altitude. From here, on the left side, follow the ridge on trail traces until you reach Cima Cadinel 2,866 m.
