Since the melting of the summit glacier of Cima Tosa, Cima Brenta is the highest summit of the Brenta group. Although the group geologically belongs to the Dolomites, the wide Adige valley (Valle dell’Adige) clearly separates this massif from the rest of the Dolomite area. This isolated location between the glaciated Adamello group, the green mountains of Trentino, and the deep-cut valleys with their apple orchards makes the Brenta so unique. The Brenta is especially famous for its spectacular "Brenta paths" – a connected network of narrow ledges and airy iron ladders that make it possible to cross the entire mountain range in several days. Apart from some towers coveted by extreme climbers, the summits of the Brenta are seldom visited – including Cima Brenta. The easiest route, the path of the first ascenders over the Brenta glacier and the west ridge, is hardly used today. The standard ascent is now considered the south wall route (III+).
