A stunning ridgeline hike that immediately starts with a short climb to the peak of Chopok (2nd highest peak of the Low Tatras) and then follows the ridgeline up & down all the way to the peak of Ďumbier (Highest peak of the Low Tatras).

There are multiple ways to access this hike from both the South & North sides of Chopok either by hiking up the mountain or taking ski lifts.  This route is based on taking a ski lift and gondola from the North side to the top of the ridgeline near Chopok. See the "Getting There" section for more details.

It's a good idea to start this hike earlier in the morning as the parking lot can get packed and to also leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy the hike as it can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours (without breaks).

Upon exiting the cable car, you'll see the peak of Chopok immediately to your left.  Follow the trail for a few minutes to the peak for some amazing views of the valley below and the trail you'll be taking that continues to your right all the way to Dumbier!

Follow the small trail back down and around Kamenná chata (mountain hut, which is a good place to stop for lunch on the way back!) which will bring you below Chopok peak.

The trail is very easy to follow and well-laid out with big rocks to walk on.  After gradually going downhill, it starts to get steeper as you go further.  Along the way you'll have excellent views from all sides!

The trail will then flatten out for a small section once you reach Demänovské Sedlo (Saddle).  This is a great spot to take in the views, rest, and have a snack before you begin your gradual, uphill climb to Ďumbier.

Once you're ready to go, there is clear signage to begin your ascent to Ďumbier.  The ridgeline becomes steeper and you'll have amazing views of the valley below to your left.  At one point, you'll reach a junction where the trail breaks off to the left to Krúpovo Sedlo.  Take that left for a minute til you reach the top for more beautiful views!

Go back to the original trail and then continue the last section to Ďumbier.  At the top of Ďumbier you'll be treated to breathtaking views all around you!  Relax and enjoy before you go back to Chopok on the trail you came to Ďumbier with.

    Parking

If you have a car, you'll most likely park at "Parkovisko Záhradky" which costs 10 euros for all-day parking (as of 2022).  You'll see signs (or ask the parking lot attendant) for directions to buy your roundtrip ski lift/gondola tickets to the top of Chopok.  Please note, the lifts only run every 30 minutes, and pay attention to when the last lift comes down!
