Bodenschneid and Baumgartenschneid
This cozy but fairly long day route connects not only Spitzingsee with Tegernsee, but also with Bodenschneid and Baumgartenschneid two very popular tours on Munich's local mountains. Several dining options ensure - depending on taste - a relaxed and enjoyable day.
After starting at Spitzingsattel, it goes to Obere Firstalm and further up to Bodenschneid. The view there on fine days is extraordinary: from the view to Munich to the main Alpine ridge, everything is included. After descending to Bodenschneidhaus follows the transfer to the foot of Baumgartenschneid over cozy forest and service roads. The last ascent to Baumgartenschneid is rewarded once more with beautiful views over Tegernsee. Passing Riederstein, it goes down to Berggasthaus Galaun, where - almost too early! - the descent over Leeberg flank begins and finally ends at the Tegernsee station.

Safety information
Basically, the tour suggestion involves no particular hazards. Only the first meters of the descent from Bodenschneid are somewhat rocky, but can be managed easily and safely with some care.Roadbook
From Spitzingsattel, two driveways lead west: the upper one, rising towards Obere Firstalm, is the correct one. It mostly goes uphill moderately through a beautiful mixed forest. Becoming increasingly flatter, Obere Firstalm is then reached. The further path to Bodenschneid goes past the buildings to the right up the slope and, following the sign towards Bodenschneid, slightly left into the forest. The path ascends lightly, increasingly to the left, and passes the junction to the Bodenschneidhaus. Keep left there and at the shortly following junction of another path, go up to the right. Soon after, it goes steeper over increasingly open terrain. Quite quickly the summit ridge is reached after a few switchbacks, already offering a beautiful view. Turn right there and in a few minutes, with only moderate ascent, cross a meadow to the summit cross. Here, the panorama opens towards the Tegernsee and the foothills of the Alps.
The descent to Bodenschneidhaus initially goes somewhat steeply down the ridge to the north. But after a short time, the path avoids the rocky ridge to the right and leads down the flank over several switchbacks. Through a small woodland, a crossing path is finally reached. Follow this to the left towards the already long visible Bodenschneidhaus. There, the path merges into a forest road that leads downhill. After passing Raineralm at the edge of the forest, ignoring the junction of a path, you reach the junction of another forest road. Follow this to the left into a combination of hairpin turns and continue on this path in a northwesterly direction. Ignore some junctions and branches until reaching a larger crossroads (Alpine Club map point 1089). Turn left there onto the signposted Lahnenhöhenweg. This path shortly forks; here definitely choose the right path. It goes up fairly evenly for some time until the gained altitude is unfortunately lost again in the following descent into Stadeltal. Finally, the path merges into a forest road that leads up from Schliersee. Turn left there until the end of the forest road. Somewhat inconspicuously, a small trail branches off on the left end of the turning area, leading roughly southwards, later turning slightly right up to Sagfleckl. Turn left there onto the ascent to Baumgartenschneid. After the flatter and often somewhat muddy saddle, the trail leads into a beech forest and, in many switchbacks, towards a forbidding rocky group. Almost there, a long switchback is passed after which — somewhat surprisingly — a gap opens in the rock that the path skillfully uses, thus easily bypassing the rock formation. Shortly after, the forest is already left behind and Baumgartenalm is reached. From here, there is a direct view of Baumgartenschneid, which, on the last few meters somewhat steep, is then quickly and easily reached. The view to the south is blocked by the forest, but that does not matter: most of the often numerous summit visitors sit on the northwestern meadows and enjoy the view over the nearby Tegernsee.
The descent leads from the summit westwards over a slightly eroded path down to the forest edge. In the same direction, the path continues through the forest to the inconspicuous Rohrkopf, which is passed almost unnoticed. There the path turns right and leads down in many curves to the saddle to Riederstein. Those who want to shorten the route can take the easy path to the Berggasthaus Galaun there. Those who want to visit Riederstein and the chapel there go straight and in a left curve to the beautiful viewpoint. A few meters back, the Way of the Cross branches off to the right, leading down countless steps to the Berggasthaus Galaun. After passing the building, the path immediately forks at the forest edge: keep left on the trail here. In a long right curve, the trail merges into a forest road, which continues in the same direction. Shortly before a left curve, a trail branches off to the left, beautifully situated in the afternoon sun, leading down Leeberg. At Pfliegelhof, the forest opens and the path turns into Sonnleitenweg. Follow this to a right curve and via Schützenstraße to the valley of the Alpbach. Turn left there into Prinzenweg and shortly after cross a bridge into Max-Josef-Straße. This leads through a residential area to the junction with Bahnhofstraße. Follow this shortly to the right a few meters uphill and then go across to the already visible station.

Equipment
Sturdy footwear suitable for mountain tours is a basic requirement for this route. Poles may be helpful for the descents depending on preference.
Although there are two dining options with Bodenschneidhaus and Berggasthaus Galaun, the summit snack from your own backpack usually tastes best!
