Located in the south of the Rieserfernergruppe: dark biotite gneiss gave the mountain its name. Ascent to the summit via the "Mühlbacher Talile" (Mühlbach Valley).
The best way to get there is from Percha via Tesselberg in the direction of Mühlbach, turn right shortly before the valley stream of the same name and follow a small road through the Mühlbach valley to the large car park (approx. 1600 m). From there walk (always marked 5/2) into the valley to the Mühlbacher Bad inn (1694 m), continue on the road to the Oberbacheralm, on to the Huberalm (1852 m, bar), to the Unterwangeralm (1948 m) and to the Oberwanger- or Heißalm (2027 m; from the starting point a good 1:30 hr.); now right on trail 2 up a slope to a shallow alpine valley, through this at first level, then gradually more steeply uphill and finally over steep scree to the Mühlbacher Jöchl (2983 m); now right on a marked path crossing the rocky northern flank in a moderate ascent (one spot somewhat exposed, easy climbing) and finally over the ridge to the summit (3105 m; from Oberwangeralm 3 hours). - Descent: Via the described ascent route.
