Information on the special offer "The Belchen cloverleaf" as a four-day route with overnight stays at the Stangenbodenhut of the Bergfreunde e.V. Münstertal at www.muenstertal-staufen.de or by phone at 07636/70740

You cross the steep north flank of the Belchen and descend to the Münstertal visitor mine Teufelsgrund. From there it goes over the Sandebene into the main Münstertal valley to St. Trudpert monastery. In a wide arc over Breitnau and the Heidstein you reach the Belchen flank again and return to the Stangenbodenhut.

    Author’s recommendation

The visit to the mine is well worth it, especially when it is hot outside - information on opening hours at www.besuchsbergwerk-teufelsgrund.de

And of course a visit to the baroque church St. Trudpert - perhaps combined with a coffee break in the café Kreuz below

    Tips and suggestions

Further sights along the route: Schwarzwaldhaus 1902 - see www.muenstertal-staufen.de

    Roadbook

From the Stangenbodenhut northwards to above the Langeck - there follow the Belchenweg to the Kaltwasser descent. Past the Schwarzwaldhaus 1902 to the Teufelsgrund visitor mine. Up through the Kaibengrund to the Sandebene and down over Trudpert's Brünnele to St. Trudpert monastery. From there first along the southern valley path, then up to Breitnau and below the Heidstein onto the Westweg. Follow this and after rounding the Belchen summit descend back to the Stangenbodenhut.

    Public transport

By train to Münstertal station - by valley bus to Rotenbuck - from there on foot up to the Stangenbodenhut (a hut night is advisable the day before, otherwise the route is too long)
