An eight-day trek through a rugged area on the border of Italy and France. We use many established paths of the Grande Traversata delle Alpi. But also some more alpine passages and, if the weather allows, we conquer some peaks.
We mostly walk through a beautiful varied alpine area with views of Mont Viso. On Col Angel we encounter not only hikers but also many motorcyclists. Once we sleep in inhabited areas, in the hamlet of Genzana. Characteristic for the route is the difference in landscape between the east and west side. On the east side, the mountain height increases sharply over a short distance. The rock walls rise steeply, are intersected by many impressive couloirs, and have large and extensive scree fields at their base. It is a very old glacier area with various small lakes.
The west side has less steep slopes and is characterized by alpine meadows with a large variety of flowers in early summer.
Although the paths and climbs are not technically difficult, the terrain condition, altitude differences, and length of daily stages place significant demands on fitness. So take as little luggage as possible. 'Light is right.'
In warm weather, we benefit from the morning coolness by starting early. Early in the season, a snowfield may still cross the path here and there.
Note: This route has been offered in the past by the NKBV. Due to possible changing conditions, you are always responsible for checking the current route conditions. Get information at the local tourist office or from the experts of the relevant region, so you go safely and prepared.
