Safety information
If you are not absolutely sure you can do the route without a rope, you should take a rope, harness, and a few carabiners and slings with you. A helmet is never wrong.Roadbook
From the parking lot, the path goes in switchbacks through forest and mountain pines, partly steeply uphill to the Zwirchkopf (T3).
From there, follow the path to the Arnplattenspitze (T3/T4).
Now it gets serious! The distinctive slab east of the summit must be downclimbed. Then it goes along a steep rock face towards the Mittlere Arnspitze, whose ascent is now very well marked with many red markings. Absolute surefootedness and a head for heights are a must here. The last few meters to the summit must be climbed (T6/UIAA 2).
The descent is also challenging. In September 2023, there was a rappel station and some left-behind slings and carabiners. I found descending the slanted ramp more demanding than the actual key section of the route.
From here, it continues to the key section, which turned out to be not so bad. With concentration and a bit of courage, you can get well over the fairly exposed spot, which has good holds and steps.
The ascent to the Große Arnspitze still requires some concentration (T6).
The descent goes via the Arnspitzhütte (not managed) and a somewhat easier hiking trail (T3) back to the starting point.
A route that stays in the memory. However, the weather and physical condition should be suitable. I would not want to be on it in rain or thunderstorms.
