For this somewhat unusual hut approach, it is best to use a mountain bike.

Because the main part of the path runs up to Igelsee on a wide road before going through beautiful forest terrain and past Seebensee, finally ascending in switchbacks to the Coburger Hut. (The stated 5 hours refers to pure hiking time and is reduced by about half with an MTB.)

    Author’s recommendation

It is best to leave your bike at Igelsee and hike back there the next day via Tajakopf, Brendl-, and Igelskar.

From the parking lot, cross Salzbach and then always follow the wide valley road parallel to the Leutascher Ache heading west. You leave Tillfusalm and Gaistalalm on the right, where you can nicely stop on the return trip the next day. Without any orientation problems, you will finally reach Igelsee.

If you want to do a circular route the next day (see tip), it is best to leave your MTB here and follow a footpath on the north side of the lake to the left heading west. (Otherwise, continue on the forest road to Seebenalm.) This footpath soon rejoins the forest road, but you can soon turn left again (well signposted) and hike on a very nice footpath further to Seebenalm.

From there, a road continues westward, then swings south and runs very beautifully along the east shore of Seebensee. A little past the lake, the final ascent begins, leading over a large dwarf pine slope in many switchbacks up to the wonderfully located Coburger Hut.
