#BreathHikingRoadbook
From WZ 5, pass under the federal road and follow along the Saalach and the Saalach lake to Baumgarten, where the Röthelbach forest road begins. Follow the steep sandy forest road to the Röthelbachklause, about 200 meters after there is a fork in the road. Keeping right leads you to the forest-edged meadow of Anthauptenalm (Bavarian snack served during the alpine pasture season), where in summer the grazing livestock enjoy tasty grasses. A visit to the nearby Vogelspitz (15 minutes from the Alm) is worthwhile, offering a magnificent view into the Saalach valley. Return the same way as the ascent.
Variations:
Vogelspitz (15 min from Anthauptenalm); a rewarding and shorter ascent is from Schwarzbachwacht to Anthauptenalm (accessible by car via B 305 from Jettenberg), 1½ hours ascent. Before Anthauptenalm, you can hike 1 hour to the neighboring Moosenalm (managed). Descent to Baumgarten (2 hours) or Schwarzbachwacht (1¼ hours) is possible.
