Short circular route to the highest peak of the Thripti mountains (T3).
The Thripti mountains are the easternmost range of Crete and easily accessible from Ierapetra on the south coast or Pachia Ammos on the north coast. The highest peak of the range, Afentis Stavromenos, is reached from the village of the same name, Thripti. The drive to the remote village via a narrow, winding mountain road is somewhat adventurous. You can reach the peak via two different paths which can be combined into a loop: either a rocky and steep trail, especially attractive in the lower part due to the green sclerophyll vegetation but somewhat more challenging (T3), or a gravel track upgraded for off-road vehicles accessing the transmission station on the summit. Despite the summit buildings including a transmission station, chapel, and shelter, there is an unobstructed view westward to the Dikti mountains and both coasts.
