Something different for once! A marvellous mountain experience in the Carnic Alps. Ascent through forest and steep mountain flanks.
No water points. Take plenty of drinking water with you.
The variant via Plengboden is no longer marked and maintained.
Author’s recommendation
Unique mountain landscape with high demands on the hiker. Suggestion: In addition to the "Herrenstiege", a "ladies' staircase" should also be created. Our female fellow hikers have excelled in mountaineering.
The summit and the two lakes are ideal for a break with a snack.

Roadbook
A favourable starting point is the village of Wodmaier, which can be reached after the turn-off in Polanig by crossing the valley southwards. Well signposted ascent (Plenge, Herrenstiege) up to approx. 2,100 metres. Here you cross a small Thörl and traverse the steep grassy slope below the Elferhöhe until you reach the two idyllic mountain lakes. The climb, visible from afar, leads on to a ridge where you can enjoy the interesting view to the south. Then continue over steep grassy slopes and the rocky ridge to the summit. Short descent to the lower summit cross.
The descent follows the same path.
