The family-friendly day route starts at Dorngraben and leads over three "1000ers", namely the Dürre Eck 1222m, Gaisberg 1267m, and Hochbuchberg at 1273m.

A wonderful route over 3 peaks with a stop at the Grünburger hut. The descent leads via the Grünburger hut to the Rieserberg parking lot.

Since the start and end points of this route are different, it makes sense to relocate a car to the Rieserberg parking lot. Alternatively, you can of course also descend back to the Dorngraben parking lot after the Grünburger hut.

    Author’s recommendation

Move a car to the Rieserberg parking lot.

From the Dorngraben parking lot, follow the forest road that branches off to the right (NW). At an altitude of just under 600m, you reach a fork where you turn left (360°). Shortly after the turn, at an altitude of 640m, turn right onto a trail (signposted Dürres Eck). Now follow the marked trail uphill until you reach a plateau at 1070m. Follow the sign "Dürres Eck" to the left and reach the summit at 1222m after a short time.
From the Dürres Eck you can see the upcoming intermediate targets and the Grünburger hut. In good visibility, you can see as far as the Mühlviertel.

Follow the path now eastward and reach the Gaisberg after about 30 minutes. On this stretch there is a fork with a descent to the Mollner hut.

After the Gaisberg, continue along the ridge to the east summit. Then follows the somewhat difficult descent to the quarry and Pfaffenboden. From Gaisberg to Pfaffenboden takes about 30 minutes. Directly in front of the fork at Pfaffenboden, a path branches off to the Hochbuchberg (north direction). Attention: No markings! Now it goes straight uphill through the forest to Hochbuchberg (walking time about 30 minutes).

After Hochbuchberg, the hiking trail leads downhill to the Grünburger hut (20 minutes).

After the refreshment stop, you can either take the hiking trail back to the starting point Dorngraben parking lot or as shown on the track to the Rieserberg parking lot.
