The Klapfberg forest road is only slightly uphill and leads past numerous private wooden huts into the valley. After about four kilometers, when the access road to the Bichel Alm branches off to the left, the forest road becomes much steeper. Before the farm building of the Klapfberg Alm (1944 m), which you reach after about an hour and a half of walking, follow trail no. 16B along a wide tractor path almost flat out of the valley to a forest clearing. This is where the steep ascent to the abandoned Schrummalm (2192 m) begins. The Schrummsee is somewhat hidden in the valley, although the ascent path does not lead directly past it. The ascent to the Schrummscharte is now moderately steep and is reached after two and three-quarters hours. Here you follow trail no. 134 over the ridge out of the valley, which leads over grassy slopes and boulders, but is not particularly steep.
