Popular bike route north of Lake Garda with a fast start and steep descent. Capanna Grassi can be reached from Campi via the narrow but paved mountain road. The ascent progresses almost in stages, initially through olive groves, then through deciduous and chestnut forests up to the turning point.
Starting point is ➊ Varone (120 m), right next to the sports field (small parking lot). Follow the signs "Anello Garda Sarca" (Loc. Roncaglie) on the very steep and somewhat winding road to ➋ Deva (260 m). At the left bend in Deva, cross the road and ascend (follow shortcut/signs) to the junction with ➌ SP 37. Follow the main road for about 1.3 km, then turn left onto the steep side road to ➍ Pranzo (458 m). Continue to the traffic light at the village exit and turn left onto the side road. Follow the main road to ➏ Campi (688 m) and continue to the ➐ parking lot and the nearby day destination, ➑ Capanna Grassi (1050 m). Returning to the parking lot, take the forest road for about 150 m, then turn right onto the steep forest path (Torrente Gamella), which shortly before ➏ Campi flows into the paved road. At the junction on the edge of Campi, turn right following the sign "Sentiero della Pinza." Initially still flat, the descent becomes increasingly steeper after the village of Righi.
