The Hochmuth Runde S310, 21.9km / 570m ascent, with a challenging uphill to Hochmuth, then leads gently through the Weissenbachtal past the Chorinsky Klause to the Weissenbachwirt.
The Hochmuth Runde S310 includes a steep and eroded uphill, which can be bypassed on asphalt; the rest of the route is gentle and also passable for beginners and returnees with some basic riding technique.
The highlights are sporty, technical, and scenic:
- Steep uphill in Niedermuth demanding primarily riding technique on the eroded section
- Break at the Weissenbachalm or Chorinskyklause and dipping your feet in the Weißbach
- Descent on the left side of the Weißbach and Weißbier at Weissenbachwirt
If you start at the P&R Jodschwefelbad, you can enjoy the end of the route at the Weissenbachwirt.

Safety information
The Hochmuth Runde is a circular route and marked with the number S310. Routes with 300 numbers have a maximum length of 30km. The specified travel times are pure net riding times with the E-MTB without breaks like photo stops, refreshment breaks, etc.
To make the day perfect, here are a few tips worth considering before each ride. Furthermore, be aware that you are moving in the mountains and thus personal responsibility plays a big role. This includes the choice of route, expected weather, and the occasional mobile phone dead zones where you will not have reception.
Tips and suggestions
In Bad Goisern, all mountain bike routes start at the ÖAMTC service point on Bahnhofstrasse at the market town office. The routes are signposted and numbered. The routes are also all signposted from the Bad Goisern train station.
We appreciate comments, tips, constructive criticism, and naturally thousands of photos of your tour with the hashtag #dachsteinsalzkammergut in your social media posts.
As new players in the arena of mountain and leisure sports enthusiasts, we E-MTB riders have a special responsibility to behave appropriately.
In Graubünden, bikers and hikers share the paths. A project that should set an example. But that only works with mutual respect. Bad actors set us back by years.
With common rules of conduct, we ensure that the forest continues to offer a unique recreation and habitat as well as a workplace for everyone.
Information about cycling in the forest from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism.
Roadbook
We start at the market town office in Bad Goisern and turn right into the market square. After about 150m at the Unimarkt, turn right into Ramsaustrasse and after 350m we cross the Traun and turn right, remain on the Ramsaustrasse uphill for another 250m and at the intersection we go straight ahead on asphalt uphill along the left side of the Ramsaubach for about 1km.
The original route now leads to the first uphill. We cross the creek (km1.8) to the right and follow the path to Steinach. After about 400m we keep left at the buildings (km2.2), shift to an easier gear and ride steeply uphill on the forest road for about 500m until we meet the Güterweg Muth II (km2.7), into which we turn left.
If you don't feel confident about this, you can continue at the intersection (km1.8) further on the Güterweg Muth II and pedal uphill.
After about 300m on the Güterweg, the original route goes straight ahead towards a steep uphill, the bypass variant follows the Güterweg (km3.0) to the right and rejoins the original route at the top in Hochmuth. Short push section of about 40m from the parking lot to the right and up.
We take on the challenge and pedal about 400m to the farm in Niedermuth (km3.4 elevation 760m), cross the creek, and now it's 150m of altitude gain and 1.4km steep and eroded uphill. At the fork left along the forest edge for another 200m that are technically demanding, then the detour path comes up from the bottom right (km4.6) to meet us.
Now the technical and fitness challenges are done, and we can enjoy the natural landscape again. 300 meters later we reach through the forest slightly uphill the highest point (km4.9) of this circuit at an elevation of 948m.
From here it goes downhill on the forest road always following the main path. We do not pay attention to the branches right after 300m, left after another 200m, left uphill after another 1.3km, and roll further 1.9km down a right curve (km8.6) passing the branch to reach after 500m a crossroads (km9.1) where we turn left downhill in a hairpin.
We cross a tributary of the Weißbach and after about 800m the Chorinskyklause (km9.9) and the Weißbachalm (Brunntalalm) lie to the right just behind. After 400m we turn right over the bridge (km10.3) towards the alpine huts of the Weißbachalm, then after the bridge turn right onto the forest road heading towards the valley.
It goes briefly uphill again and after the cattle grid we have a wonderful view towards Predigstuhl. After about 3.3km coming from below we enter a forest road (km13.6) turning right.
We always stay on the main path, ignoring the joining paths and forest roads, cross near the end the Weißbach and finally reach after 4.7km the small village of Weissenbach.
Now it goes further on asphalt, after about 200m the beer garden of the Weissenbachwirt on the left (km18.5), here we turn right towards the Traun bridge (km18.7) which we reach after about 200m.
If you started the circuit at the P&R Jodschwefelbad, we cross the bridge here up to the B145 and turn left into the bike path towards the station.
Attention! Due to the closure of the Sophienbrücke, the Traunreiterweg to Bad Goisern must be taken as a detour until further notice. Please be considerate of other road users, especially pedestrians! Trail bell/Alpine horn or bell recommended.
(The original path turns right before the Traun bridge (km18.7) and follows the asphalt path slightly uphill at first, always staying on the main path, past the spa, then after about 2.4km turns left downhill.)
After a short descent, it goes in a left curve again along the Traun for 300m to the bridge which we cross, then follow the Salzkammergut Cycle Route R2 through the spa park back to our starting point 1km away at the market town office.
The wine-red mountain bike signage is clearly geographically located. Each waypoint has a unique number, e.g., 40702-0002, printed in the lower logo line. If you ever have difficulty, you can give this number to the Inner Salzkammergut Tourism Association and they will know where you are.
